The filmaker and screenwriter stated after the film that the pivotal scene was when Jack offered Rip money to amend the adoption paperwork; that it established Rip's humanity. I respectfully disagree; Barry Pepper had already embued Rip with humanity well before that scene. In contrast, Jack's humanity was diminished by his actions and lack of empathy. Well acted throughout.
